What Does a Bowen Treatment Entail?
The Bowen Technique is a very gentle therapy; there is no manipulation or adjustment of bones and no force is used or needed. I will use my thumbs and fingers to make gentle rolling type movements over muscles and soft tissues on precise areas of the body. During the treatment there are periods in which I will leave the room and to allow your body to rest and absorb the work. This gives your body time to make the subtle and fine adjustments necessary to relieve everyday stress, help you relax and help to enhance your overall wellbeing.
To receive maximum benefit from this treatment it is recommended that you do not receive other physical therapies, such as physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractics, reflexology and massage, for around a week following a session, although homeopathy and Bach flower remedies can be used in conjunction with it.
“A remedial therapy that is non-intrusive, gentle and very effective”

Benefits of Bowen Technique
- Helps to reduce everyday aches.
- Alleviates everyday stress and / or anxiety.
- Promotes relaxation.
- There is evidence to support the increased flexibility, in the short term, of hamstring muscles in healthy adults who received Bowen treatments. (Marr, M et al (2011) The effects of the Bowen Technique on hamstring flexibility over time: A randomised controlled trial, Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies 15(3): 281-90.)
In order to gain maximum benefit from your treatment it is recommended that you drink a glass of water, rest and avoid eating a heavy meal afterwards.
Why do I believe I can make a difference to your health and wellbeing?
Since 2006 I have undertaken extensive study in holistic healthcare in order to be able to deliver safe, effective treatments which genuinely improve my patients’ quality of life. To further my medical knowledge in 2009 I enrolled on an Osteopathy degree at Oxford Brookes University and at the end of my five year course I was awarded a First Class Honours degree and graduated top of the class.
Having qualified as an Osteopath, I am now a primary healthcare professional, which means I can diagnose problems and identify the root cause, thereby restoring your physical and psychosocial well-being.
I am passionate about working with my patients to achieve their health goals, whether you are struggling with pain or decreased mobility then I am confident I can help. To see how I’ve made a difference to my patients’ wellbeing, please read my Testimonials from patients who have received Bowen.
How Long Does a Bowen Session Last?
A Bowen treatment last approximately 40 minutes.
The initial session will take approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. During this time I will ask you about your symptoms and medical history. Please bring details of any medication you have been prescribed and are taking, in addition to details of any scans, such as X-Rays, Ultrasounds or MRIs to this initial session. This is very important as it will help me to make an accurate diagnosis and suggest appropriate treatment. I will record what you say in my notes which will be kept confidentially in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. If you wish, you may ask for a copy of these notes, however, an administration fee will be charged.
A follow up session lasts around an hour.
Two to three treatments at weekly intervals are often sufficient, although further treatments may sometimes be required.
What to Wear
As I am a Registered Osteopath, I will begin your Bowen Session with a physical examination and assessment of the areas causing you concern, so that I can determine a diagnosis. I will invite you to undress as far as underwear for examination and treatment purposes. Please bring a pair of light shorts / leggings and a vest top if you feel uncomfortable with this. Please note that wearing jeans and bulky jumpers makes it very difficult to perform an effective examination and treatment.
Please feel assured that your modesty is maintained throughout the session with the use of towels or your clothing.
How Will I Feel After my Treatment?
You may experience some discomfort for up to 24 hours after the treatment. This is a normal, positive process as your body responds to the changes that have been made.
